Eczema (Atopic Dermatitis)

Eczema is a skin rash that usually presents as dry, scaly, and very itchy. Often, eczema appears in children under the age of 5, with flare-ups throughout life. While it is not considered an autoimmune disorder, it is often seen in people with autoimmune disorders.

The Cleveland Clinic says there is no cure. Personally, I believe there is a cure. It may require you to avoid certain foods, or products with chemicals, or even heal your gut. Our bodies are self-healing, and can overcome many things, if nourished and cared for properly.

Your overall health can drastically improve, if you stop eating processed foods, high fructose corn syrup, seed oils (vegetable, canola, sunflower, etc.), and sugar. Choose an animal-based diet instead. For detailed information about the animal based diet, check out the link on the left.

Possible Causes

Nutritional deficiency, poor gut health, allergies to food or chemicals in detergents, soaps, beauty products, etc., chronic stress.

Do not use vitamin E if you are on coagulants or have a vitamin K deficiency.

Remedies

1) Sunshine-produces vitamin D, which boosts the immune system
2) Vitamin D (Mothers with vitamin D deficiency during pregnancy, often have children who develop eczema before the age of 5)
3) Omega-3 fatty acids, which have an anti-inflammatory effect on the body
4) Vitamin E activates enzymes for immune and inflammatory cells.
5) Probiotics heal the gut, which in turn, makes the body less inflammatory
6) Apple cider vinegar restores skin's pH balance, which is often elevated in people with eczema
7) Coconut oil is anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial, which is beneficial for cracked skin
8) Beef tallow (my fav!) contains omega-3 fatty acids (see #3) and is anti-inflammatory
9) Licorice extract reduces itching in break outs
10) Lavender essential oil is anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and soothing to skin
