The Foundations of Optimal Health

Updated: Sep 24

Matthew 7:24 begins the parable of the two men who were building their houses. The wise man chose to build his house on the ground made of rock. The foolish man built his house on sand. When the storms came, the house built on the rock stood strong while the house built on sand shifted and crashed in on itself.

When a contractor builds a house, he knows the importance of having a good foundation. Building on a weak foundation can cause problems from cracks in the foundation and walls, doors getting stuck or not closing properly, kitchen cabinets separating from the wall, gaps around the windows and sagging floors. Over time, the house will become weaker and will eventually fall apart.

Our health is very much the same. Our foundation must be strong to stand against the bombardments of the toxins we encounter in our world. If our foundation is not strong, we will develop cancer, diabetes, kidney problems, blood pressure problems, asthma, allergies, gout, circulation problems, blood problems, and the list goes on and on and on.

Our foundation has six elements. Each part of our foundation has an impact on our pH and our overall health. Our pH is how fast or how slow our digestion is moving. If it moves too slow, constipation can become a problem. This can cause the toxins in the stool to be reabsorbed by the body. If it moves too fast, our bodies may not be able to absorb and use the vitamins and minerals being put into our bodies. This can eventually cause malnutrition.

The Foundations of Optimal Health

Nutrition

  • Eat real food. If it fell from a tree, grew from the ground, ran through the fields, swam through the ocean, or flew through the sky, it's real food.

  • Eat non-GMO. Because the DNA of Genetically Modified Organisms has been altered, our bodies are not equipped to digest it. We do not have the digestive enzymes we need to break down the foreign material.

  • Eat organic to avoid pesticides and other chemicals that are poisonous to our bodies.

Hydration

  • Your body uses water in every chemical process.

  • Drink 1/2 your body weight in ounces of water to see an increase in potential energy, have your foggy mind cleared, and the achiness in your joints improved.

  • Fresh fruits and vegetables increase your hydration and are a great source of usable material.

Movement

  • Movement is for so much more than burning calories. It actually aids in detoxifying the body.

  • Sweating is one way our body eliminates toxins.

  • The lymphatic system requires movement. It becomes stagnant and unable to move the chemicals surrounding our cells without it. Movement causes lymph, the fluid that contains pathogen-fighting white blood cells, to be moved throughout the body

Sleep

  • During sleep, the body repairs, recovers, and detoxifies.

  • 7-9 hours of continuous sleep is recommended.

  • Throughout the day, the body naturally becomes acidic. It relies on sleep to alkalize it for the next day. Remaining in an acidic state leads to inflammation and potential disease.

Elimination

The elimination pathways are vital to allow the body to release toxins. The elimination pathways are:

  • Bowels-Intestines, liver, gallbladder

  • Urinary-Kidneys, bladder

  • Lungs-Lungs, circulation of oxygen

  • Lymphatic-Lymph and white blood cells

  • Skin-Skin and the coordination of the circulatory system for sweating

Stress/Emotional Wellness

  • Reduce stress as much as you can.

  • Emotional stress can include trauma, heartbreak, accident, PTSD, etc.

  • Physical stress can include working too many hours every week, dealing with difficult people, not resting when your body is telling you to rest, eating a lot of processed foods, etc.foods

  • Food choices matter. Chemicals in food, additives, preservatives, food dyes, palm oil, BHT, high fructose corn syrup, etc. are very harsh to the body.

  • Environmental stress can include EMF emissions, herbicides, pesticides, etc.

In addition to the foundations that affect our physical bodies, it is also important to maintain wellness in our emotions, in our thoughts, and in our spirits. We are body, soul, and spirit. These three are one. It's all connected.

Forgiveness, compassion, understanding, and love bring peace to our hearts and minds. Think about what you are thinking about. If it's mostly negative, no doubt you have a negative life. Focus on the good in your life. If it seems hard to find the good, keep looking! Find something to be thankful for. Gratitude journaling is a great way to find the good.

The best thing that has ever happened to me was giving my life to Jesus. I have experienced unexplainable peace and hope. I highly recommend letting Jesus work in your life. Let Him change you and make you who He wants you to be. His word promises when we put our hope in Him, we won't be disappointed!

Isaiah 49:23 "...Then you will know that I am the Lord; those who hope in Me will not be disappointed."
